Even after a long day in the field, you’ll be in no hurry to get out of your 5R. The dashboard layout is clear and logical. All the controls –ventilation, gear shift and switches are close to hand. Their position will soon become instinctive so you won’t need to take your eye off what you’re doing to make a change. And the best-in-class noise level means less stress and more safety all around.
Ergonomic design
You’ll find all the right controls in the right place so there’s no unnecessary stretching.
All the switches are colour coded and grouped by function.

See and be seen
No C pillars at the rear – just rounded glass panels for a clear, unobstructed view and an optional glass roof hatch provide perfect visibility to the rear and for accurate loader work.

Make yourself comfortable
There was a time when people thought a comfortable seat was a luxury. Nowadays it’s essential if you want to look after your back. There are three seats to choose from: mechanical suspended, air suspended or SuperDeluxe air suspended. The mechanical version has a wide cushion and backrest and the air suspension versions are even better at ironing out jolts and vibrations. They have an adjustable backrest, pneumatic lumbar support and seat heating for those chilly mornings and evenings.

Field office
The field office for the 5R series tractors is a large portfolio pouch where papers, manuals or even a laptop computer can be stored. It can be removed and carried like a brief case. If the field office is ordered a power outlet socket 3 pole is mounted on the left hand console.
Optional low profile cab
With clearance of just 249,5 cm the low profile cab is ideal if you need to get into tight spaces
(with 420/85 R30 wheels).
Controls
Check it out!
With the instrumentation panel Dual gauge II you can control all important tractor functions at a glance. Add the performance monitor to this and you will be informed about your CAN-BUS controlled implements, too. For premium comfort by the use of automated sequences at headland turns, our advanced HMS II is available for all 5R/RN tractors.

Dual Gauge II
The Dual Gauge II instrument pod has two large analogue dials giving at-a-glance information on tractor forward speed and engine speed. Across the top a row of information and warning lights monitor important tractor functions. Below fuel level and engine coolant temperature are also stated on analogue gauges. An LCD display shows engine speed, front and rear PTO speeds, hour meter, clock and gear indication. A three-stage warning system has been implemented for safer tractor operation.

Electronic Operator Assist Package
The Headland Management System II (HMS II) is a comfort and premium feature that reduces the number of operations at each headland turn and thus is less tiring for the operator.
Any combination of the following functions may be sequenced and then activated
with one single switch:
- MFWD – on/off
- Differential lock – on/off
- Front and rear PTO – on/off
- Hitch – raise/lower

Performance monitor
A performance monitor is available for all 5R/RN series tractors. It can be installed on the upper right “A” post in the cab and is connected directly to the tractor's electrical system via the on-board CAN-BUS communication link.

High pressure common rail

With its High pressure common rail ultimate technology this new engine generation meets your demand for a powerful, fuel efficient tractor operation perfectly.

Distributed cooling system
Highly efficient cooling is provided by a radiator in the front and a charge air cooler on top of the engine. Good accessibility reduces maintenance time and cost while the integrated design is best suited to fulfil the tough TIER III emission regulations as well as provide fuel efficiency.

Reverse function
With the reverse function of the Active Charge Air Cooler you can change the direction of the rotation. It allows you to clean the grill of the charge air cooler on the top of the hood just by pressing the button in the cab.
Transmission
The 5R offers you two top-of-the line transmissions – AutoQuad Plus or PowrQuad Plus.
Here’s the difference:
AutoQuad Plus is the premium choice for automatic, clutch-less shifting between gears. You can set the change points you want between 1700 and 2200 rpm, so you’re always in the right gear for the job.
Whichever transmission you choose, you’ll enjoy all of these premium features standard on your 5R:
- Cruise Control - for applications that demand precise PTO rpm and precise tractor speeds
- SoftShift technology - providing smooth changes of gears for a stress less, premium work day

AutoQuad Plus transmission
The AutoQuad Plus features in addition the automatic shifting (Auto Mode) between the 4 power shift gears depending on engine rpm and load. This guarantees premium comfort and ensures that the tractor can always be driven in the most efficient way to save time and fuel costs.
The automatic shifting points can be set between 1700 and 2200 rpm to improve productivity in all load conditions.
Frame design
Why is a full frame better?

A full frame makes your whole tractor stronger and more durable. You can lift and haul heavier loads without stressing the engine or transmission. The frame takes it all. Hooking up a wide choice of loaders is easier, too. Only John Deere offers you full frame strength and convenience!
With a lift capacity of max. 42 kN at the rear hooks and max. 29 kN at the front hitch,
the 5R makes light work of heavy lifting.

The John Deere full frame concept.
The solution of achieving higher payloads without increasing tractor weight is the most significant change in tractor design. A long, durable, steel double frame acts as a strong backbone and the exceptional strength of the full frame concept enables the 5R/RN series tractor to utilise larger implements.

Modular concept
A modular tractor design enables the interchange ability of powertrain units to tailor the tractor to your specific requirements. Even at a later stage - after many years of use- you have the possibility to change the requirements due to excellent access to the powertrain components for example, PTO speeds and creeper options etc. can be added.

Weight distribution
The modern tractor design and full frame concept presents a unique opportunity to redefine tractor weight distribution by placing
- cab
- engine
- and the transmission
independently within the frame for ideal weight distribution which is 40 % on the front- and 60 % on the rear axle – ideal for loader work. It allows safe handling of heavy ballast with the loader without losing traction on the rear axle.
Hydraulics

The continuing increase in size and complexity of modern machinery has led to a greater need for hydraulic power.

Premium high capacity hydraulics
To meet all modern requirements the 5R Series tractors are equipped as standard with a 56l/min gear pump. For higher demands, a 65l/min pump can be ordered. Both pumps deliver a max pressure of 200 bar.

Rear three point hitch
The dual cylinder rockshaft with category 1 and 2, three point hitch is standard equipment on all 5R series tractors. The rear three point hitch provides 42 kN max lift capacity and lateral float adjustments allow implements with gauge wheels to follow the ground contour.
Hitches and PTO
Hitches and PTO

The powerful 3-point electronic hitch and rugged PTO on the 5R are designed for maximum versatility and efficiency.
The PTO delivers full rated horsepower at the proper PTO speed. It features an electro-hydraulic multi-disc wet clutch and is oil cooled for long, dependable life. The Category 3 three-point hitch has a maximum lift capacity of up to 42 kN and features electronic lower link sensing for load and depth control.

Front hitch
All 5R/RN Series tractors are available with a John Deere front hitch ex factory. The “green in green“ solution of a 5R Series tractor equipped with John Deere front loader and front hitch ensure full compatibility and allows front loader work without dismounting the lower links.

PTO controls
The PTO is electro-hydraulically engaged with a switch on the right-hand console:
- Engagement = Pushing the switch down and forward
- Disengagement = Releasing the switch backwards
The oil-cooled multi-disc clutches and brakes have wear-resistant linings for long-life. The electronically controlled valve ensures smooth modulated engagement for light as well as for heavy implements.

All models of the John Deere 5R Series tractors are equipped with the electro hydraulic activated MFWD Front Axle with wet multi discs. The 12° caster angle permit up to 52° steering angle for excellent tight turning radius.

Rear axle brake

Major features:
- Suspended brake pedals for comfortable operation.
- Four Wheel Braking: by braking with both foot pedals the MFWD will be activated automatically to increase the contact area of the front wheels to the ground.
- Braked Turn: by pressing one of the foot pedals the MFWD will be disengaged and the tractor turns in the smallest possible turning circle. This is achieved by braking the inner rear wheel.
- Maintenance free design due to self-adjusting and self-equalizing disc brakes which are asbestos free and oil cooled.
- Brake retractors are used to return the brake piston away from the brake disc to eliminate brake drag, reducing power losses and saving fuel.
- Brakes are engaged by a dual stage brake valve for premium braking performance.
5RN
Meet the 5RN - Narrow cab for speciality applications

Now you can enjoy all the advantages of our 5R Series tractor in a new slender size. The 5RN gives you the roomy comfort, power and versatility of a premium tractor inside. But thanks to the narrow fenders and fuel tank, plus the inboard ladder and repositioned lights, it´s slim on the outside.
The narrow dimensions of the 5RN series tractors allows working in specialty applications and rows down to a width of 2.5 m.

Hand rail and rear fender
Compared to the 5R, the hand rail on the 5RN is closer to the cab and the rear fenders are cut. To provide a narrow version, no rear fender extensions are available for the 5RN series tractors.

Foot steps
The foot steps on the 5RN are mounted in a more acute angle compared to the 5R.

Fuel tank
The fuel tank of the 5RN is also very narrow to provide a small overall width. The fuel capacity is 114 l.

Hub of the front axle
The hub to hub width with of the front axle is with 1862 mm the broadest part of the 5RN tractor.
AMS
Optional guidance for unparalleled accuracy

While the 5R Series does not have integrated AMS capabilities, John Deere offers stand alone solutions that can be utilised effectively on the 5R series to meet the needs of small and medium livestock farmers and speciality farmers.
These solutions include:

GreenStar Lightbar
If you're new to guidance systems, this simple, fuss-free parallel tracking system is for you. It takes less than ten minutes to set up and works on any John Deere. The system has two components: the new StarFire 300 receiver you mount on your cab and the GreenStar Lightbar display that goes on your dashboard. Each LED indicator on the GreenStar Lightbar display represents a deviation of 10 cm from the ideal track you set.

AutoTrac ATU 200 Universal steering kit
This satellite-based, hands-free guidance system maximises productivity while making life easier for the operator, for instance, when it's dark or dusty. AutoTrac cuts overlap by up to 90% and speeds up headland turns, saving you time, fuel and labour costs. The documentation and implement control software helps you to manage input costs and keep electronic records for crop traceability and other regulatory requirements. The kit contains a StarFire receiver, original GreenStar display and a replacement motorised steering column. It is compatible with SF1 & SF2 signals, as well as with RTK.
With our Displays, you´ll get a whole new view of your in-field operations. Both the push-button 1800 and the touchscreen 2600 feature colour displays.
Front Loader

With a John Deere front loader, you can be sure of better performance, greater durability and perfect alignment. Why? Because we design them as an integral part of your tractor – not something you bolt on afterwards. The extra strength and durability means you can use your hydraulic power to the full. For tremendous breakout force – and faster cycle times.

MSL or NSL?
Mechanical self-levelling (MSL) loaders automatically keep your attachment level during raise/lower cycles. They are ideal for demanding loader tasks where operators need to be really efficient. Non self-levelling (NSL) loaders cost less and are ideal when you don't need to keep attachment levels during raise/lower cycles.
Which loader fits the 5R and my farm?
The 533 (MSL or NSL) is ideal for general farm chores and occasional loading work.
The 583 (HSL/MSL or NSL) provides a better lift and height capacity than the 533.
The 633 (HSL/MSL or NSL) is designed for heavy duty work.

Front implement package
The Front implement package is especially created for loaders and other front- or mid mounted implements like hedge cutters and mulchers in municipality and AG applications or mid mounted implements in speciality applications.
The package includes 2 SCVs (105 and 205) mounted in the rear of the tractor on the right side to the other SCVs. Like all other regular SCVs the 2 loader valves also feature a load check valve on the lower port.
All packages include an integrated joystick, which is ergonomically mounted on the right hand side in front of the gear shifter for hours of stress-free operation.

Loader/Front implement Package
The Loader/ Front implement Package includes 2 SCVs (105 and 205) the joystick, mid mounted couplers, loader brackets with hood guard and multi-couplers.

Loader package
The Loader Package includes 2 SCVs (105 and 205), the joystick, housing from the rear SCVs and housing to the multi-couplers and the loader bracket with hood guard. In contrast to the Loader/ Front Implement package,mid mounted couplers not included. The Loader package is only suitable for loader applications; the use of the joystick for other front or mid mounted implements is not possible.

Gear shifting on joystick With the gear shifting on the joystick you can improve your productivity and comfort by simultaneously shifting the gears and changing loader functions. No change from speed lever to loader joystick is required.
